ITMIN, one of Sri Lanka's Leading Lanka Internet Service Providers (ISP), has proposed a new tarrif structure where charges will be based on kilobytes transferred and not the amount of time spent on line.
ITMIN claims this is the trend with ISPs globaly, however i have yet to come across many ISPs who do follow this model. (it's common practice with some ISPs to use a per KB rate for email but not for internet).
If successfully implemented by ITMIN it's likely to be adapted by other
Sri Lankan service providers too. Since it could lead to increased profitability for them.
But at 50 cents per kilobyte internet may become out of reach for many.
Downloading the three emails ITMIN sent on this regards to their customers
alone whould cost Rs 20.00
